A “hybrid” locomotive? Siemens

The multi-system

The multi-system Vectron locomotives will operate across this landscape in Switzerland.

European corridors

The Vectron locomotive is interoperable on the European corridors.

The locomotives will be operated by the Rail Cargo Group, the freight division of ÖBB. They will be used for cross-border freight transport in Austria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. In addition to having national control systems, all locomotives will also be equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS). The locomotives have a maximum output of 6,400 KW and a top speed of 160 km/h.

Brightline’s trains

Brightline’s trains are built as integrated trainsets, comprised of two diesel-electric locomotives and four high quality stainless steel coaches.

Siemens ES64U4 locomotive

Siemens ES64U4 locomotive reached a speed of 235 km/h 
on the section of track between Psary and Góra Vlodovska.

This is the highest speed that any train has reached in the Polish railway network. 

The test train consisted of two locomotives of the type ES64U4 
and three passenger cars belonging to the Polish railway operator 
Polskie Koleje Panstwow-Intercity (PKP Intercity). 

The previous speed record for a locomotive-hauled trainset 
was 222 km/h.

Sprinter

The first "Amtrak Cities Sprinter" type electric locomotive for our customer Amtrak has just rolled out of the manufacturing plant. The U.S. intercity passenger rail service had placed a €338 million ($466 million) order with Siemens for 70 electric locomotives in October 2010. By securing this order, Siemens has succeeded in selling its locomotives to the American market for the first time. The first units will be field tested this summer for entry into revenue service in the fall. The last of these units are due to be handed over to Amtrak as of the end of 2015.
