A new contract was signed in January 2009 for the supply of locomotives for Uzbek Railways.
Main supplier for 15 locomotives is the Chinese locomotive plant CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotives Company Ltd.
Siemens supplies the traction system including the locomotive control system and provides installation and commissioning support.
The locomotives are intended for passenger service and are mainly used on the Tashkent – Samarghand route.
The new locomotives have been introduced to cope with the increasing passenger traffic and replace outdated models.
